Are "No-Kiss" BL Dramas Making A Soft Return Or Am I Being Paranoid?

Dear Reader, I received a great shock a few weeks back when i watched "Let's Eat Together, Aki and Haru".

I had seen the trailer and gotten so excited to watch it because i liked how cute both actors were. For some reason, in my head, I assumed it was to be a series but alas, it turned out to be a film. Not a problem, a story is a story, I can live with that.

The story is a sweet one, flows well and is something to watch when you don't feel like using your brain. BLs are BLs, we are mostly here for the feels and to watch two cute boys fall in love with a little conflict or angst thrown in, followed by a kiss, sensual body play or on a good day, both.

Now, like you, I have been in and out of this world over the last decade and in that time, i accepted, learned to love and grew accustomed to 'ambiguous' endings that hinted at what came after Kohaku and the defining of the relationship. We learned to wistfully accept the lack of a kiss or physical connection.

But, that was was before. It has been years (thank you God) and since then, we have been spoiled ever so much and ever so beautifully! I mean, for crying out loud, I am still reeling from and reliving every sensual and passionate moment in My Beautiful Man: Eternal and The End of The World With You. To name a few, but let us not get distracted. There are days i literally just loop certain scenes because, forgive me, they are just so enthralling that i have to watch them over and over again. And don't lie, I bet you have looped and rewinded as much as i have, so there is not point in denying it.

Which brings us to the question, why wasn't there even the hint of a kiss in this movie? I thought movies (at least in East Asia, as far as i understand it?) allowed more room for 'illicitness'? Is this a signal that we may be forced to return to days of yon? You might be thinking me dramatic at this point, because so far, its just the one film.

Yes, the thought is a dramatic one and yes, it could be a Network Television thing but, BUT! I call bollocks because its 2023 for fucks sakes, we endured enough, let us not be dragged back into 'no-kiss-in-this-bl' world. I refuse, i don't see the point of it. If it Is to be a romantic story, make it so and don't be too shy about it.

Am i being unreasonable? Or am i right and this is how it starts?
